CITY & COUNTRY
The Empordà is a county within Catalunya, situated to the north of Barcelona in the province of Girona. The impressive landscapes, beautifully restored medievel towns, stunning Costa Brava beaches and unique traditions and cuisine make it an inspiring place to visit.
Barcelona is well known as an excellent cultural and arty city-break location. Strong with artistic history, it is a cosy city set between the beach and the mountain, it is easy to see why Picasso, Miró and Tapiés were so attached to the Catalan capital.
untitledBCN is a Barcelona based Arts Organisation. Founded by two friends, Xavier Kaye and Jessica Casey in 2008. Over the years we have worked with artists from all around the world, collectives and individuals, young and old, professional and non-professional. Our focus is to show and recommend the best of Barcelona to our visitors, introducing the city from a locals artists’ point of view and helping them come away from the trip with a strong understanding of Catalan culture and art, both current and past.
During ‘City & Country’ visitors will experience a bit of both in a six night inclusive trip. The first half will be spent exploring and painting the Empordà. Travelling around by car (and sometimes foot) the group will stay in a small historic village called Ullastret. They will learn about and enjoy the local cuisine, with most meals cooked at home and with dinning taking place on the terrace with stunning views. Ten hours of tutored painting time are included during the time in the Empordà, led by local painter Marc Badia (marcbadiaquintana.com). For accompanying partners who don’t wish to paint, they can learn how to make a Paella, or visit a local vineyard and select Cava or Wine to accompany the meal. Across the three days the visitors together with the tutor Marc and Jess or Xev from untitledBCN, will take in the scenery, beaches and nearby villages and towns, as well as having some free time to spend as they please.
Fully refreshed and recharged with good food and company, the next half of the trip will be spent in the city of Barcelona. With specialised guided walks provided by Xev & Jess from untitledBCN, museum and gallery visits, and meals at specially selected local restaurants. There will not be any tutored painting time in Barcelona, although we can always recommend excellent spots if artists wish to continue during the rest of the trip. Further to the planned itinerary Xev and Jess will provide local recommendations for exhibitions (large and small) restaurants and other points of interest for the couples to get the most out of their free time in the city.
Jess or Xev from untitledBCN will collect visitors from the airport and be the point of contact (and at times, translator) for the trip. The trip is designed to help visitors enjoy all angles of Catalunya, discovering its beauty and vibrancy.
